After more than a decade of planning, the 125-foot-tall Condit Dam near Washington's south Cascades has been breached. Officials used dynamite to blow the dam, which will be deconstructed throughout the rest of the year. The Condit Dam was said to have blocked salmon and steelhead from migrating from the White Salmon River since 1913. The breaching will open several miles of fish habitat in the upper river and will eventually open the lower river to white-water rafters and kayakers. View Now

Police in Oakland, California used tear gas and percussion grenades on protesters, who were attempting to reclaim the plaza from which they were evicted during an earlier "Occupy Oakland" protest. This video also shows a man who was shot during the riot. The Oakland protesters were orginally kicked out of the Frank Ogawa Plaza with the use of smoke grenades, for what police say were sanitary and safety concerns.
